When it comes to summer beauty, I change my hair and skin care routines due to the hot temperature (ok, insanely hot temperature) here in North Carolina. I love experimenting with new skin and hair products, and also using my tried and true favorites. When it comes to purchasing these products, Walgreens is my go-to place because I honestly don’t like to spend a lot of money on beauty products. Walgreens always have great deals going on, and it’s super close by which is an added bonus!

First up is skin care. I have my normal skincare routine throughout the year, but in the summer I add in two extra steps. The first step involves self-tanner. I used to tan by laying out by the pool or on the beach, however it’s important not to expose yourself to harmful rays because of the damage that it causes to your skin. Instead, I like to use self-tanning lotions or wipes. These sublime bronze wipes by L’Oreal are a tried and true favorite of mine because the results are instantaneous instead of being built up gradually like most lotions. The process for applying these wipes is pretty simple. I first exfoliate when taking a shower, then once I’m dry I apply the wipes so the tanner evenly coats my body. I take a shower at night to allow the self-tanner enough time to dry.

The second step I add to my skin care routine is applying sunscreen. If I’m going to be outside I put on sunscreen (and you should too). I can’t stress how important and simple this is in order to prevent skin damage or cancer later down the road. I recently tried ‘Hawaiian Tropic Sheer Touch Ultra Radiance Lotion SPF 30‘ and it’s now my favorite sunscreen! It smells really good (unlike normal sunscreen) and it leaves my skin feeling silky smooth. It’s also 30 SPF which is the minimum that I like to use.

Now, when it comes to my hair care I definitely have to make some adjustments for summer. I have extremely frizzy and curly hair, which isn’t the best when it comes to North Carolina humidity. I’ve learned how to deal with it though, and the Garnier Fructis Moroccan Oil and the Mark Hill Finishing Hairspray are both life savers! It keeps the frizz to a minimum, which really helps with styling.

When it comes to styling, I love experimenting with different braids in the summertime. This hair style below is a favorite of mine, and it’s really easy to do. It’s called the ‘twist braid’ and here are the quick steps:

I love the included hair tutorial! I actually love Walgreens. I don't know if it's all walgreens but our local stores have a beauty counter rewards program. You get a card and for every $10 you spend you get a stamp. When you fill up the card you get 15% off your next beauty purchases, 20% if you buy walgreens brand. It's a great deal!

That hairstyle is adorable! I'm super OCD about applying sunscreen on my girls, and I've gotten better about applying it on myself too, or better yet, just sitting in the shade. Hope you are having a great week!
