We adopted Lilly from a local rescue group when she was 6 months old. Ever since then, Lilly has been eating Purina® Pro Plan® made with chicken and she loves it! We were looking for a great dog food to feed her, and we noticed that real chicken, beef, lamb, or salmon is the #1 ingredient found in all Purina® Pro Plan® dry formulas. It’s the first dry dog food brand to use and be founded on the idea of real meat as the #1 ingredient to help promote total body health which is important to us. When it comes to purchasing Lilly’s food, we always go to our local PetSmart. It’s my favorite pet store to do my shopping, and it’s where Lilly went through dog training. PetSmart always has everything we need for Lilly, it’s organized well, and the employees are always so helpful. I also love bringing Lilly shopping with us so she can socialize which is really important to us.

Lilly eats Purina® Pro Plan® twice a day as her meal, and we also use her food as a training incentive. Lilly is very motivated by food and instead of giving her large treats when teaching her a new trick, we like to reward her with pieces of her food. This way,  she isn’t over eating and we can practice these new tricks for a longer period of time.

When teaching Lilly a new trick (like how to give me her paw) I follow a few simple steps:

  1. I’ll start off by taking a handful of Purina® Pro Plan®.
  2. I say the word ‘paw’ while looking at Lilly.
  3. I then grab her paw to show her what I mean.
  4. Then I give her a piece of her food.

I do this quite a few times to teach her positive reinforcement, and to show her what she needs to do when I said this new word. Then, I test her and I say ‘paw’ one last time to see if she knows what she’s supposed to do. Lilly then knows that if I say ‘paw’,  she needs to give it to me and then she gets a piece of her Purina® Pro Plan® food that she loves!

Awwww what a good girl! I need to take mine back to training. Sometimes she listens, but some times she just wants to be a rebel haha.

I love the tip to train with pieces of food, rather than treats- we do the same and closely monitor portioning, because our pup is heavily motivated by food. Treats are great too, as treats, of course! #client

I have such a special place in my heart for rescues! Winston was rescued when he was 8 weeks from the Wake County SPCA, and we've been feeding him Purina Pro Plan since we adopted him. I love your tips! xo
