messy bun for short hair

Short hair has its advantages like a much quicker drying time, but it also has its disadvantages when it comes to different hair styles. The one hair style that I loved when I had longer hair was a messy bun. Unfortunately, I don’t have enough hair anymore so I’ve doing a half up version that works perfectly with short hair!  Here are the steps:

Step 1:

Wash and style your hair as usual. I washed my hair using the John Frieda Brilliant Brunette® Visibly Brighter™product line. I started coloring my hair last year for the first time, and these products are perfect for in between salon visits or instead of salon visits! You can either lighten or darken your hair within just a few minutes in the shower. How amazing is that?! I used the Brilliant Brunette® Visibly Brighter™ Subtle Lightening Shampoo, Conditioner, and In-Shower Treatment. There is also a product line for blondes, and a product line to deepen brunette hair. The shampoo and conditioner that I used  gradually brightens for a natural look, visibly boosts the the brightness of brunette hair each day, and they are brand new products. The in-shower treatment that I used is also brand new, it lightens your hair one shade instantly, and it’s safe for natural, highlighted, and color-treated hair. I really love how well you can see my lightened hair in the hair tutorial below! You can pick up these products at Target. Just look out for the end cap display until March 5, and if you buy all three of these products you will also get a $5 gift card! Target is always my go to store because of how convenient it is and how I can pick up everything I need in one stop (I especially love it for beauty products and clothes). Target is definitely my weakness!

Step 2:

Gather the hair behind each one of your ears. You can either just use your hands or a comb.

Step 3:

Gather your hair into a pony tail on top of your head.

Step 4:

Pull your pony tail through a rubber band and twist it around once or twice.

Step 5:

Pull your hair half way through the rubber band.

Step 6:

Pull at the sides of the bun, and the top and bottom of the bun to mess it up a bit. You can make it as messy as you like!

I have suuuuper long hair but I still love doing messy buns! And those Brilliant Brunette products are some of my FAVORITES! I swear the conditioner makes my hair so shiny!

I miss being able to do different things with my hair, but it's so much easier to style when it's short. Plus, I can't be lazy and just wear a ponytail every day.

I love wearing my hair up and half down like this, but I usually do a ponytail. The bun looks really cute!

I love this short hairstyle! I can't ever pull this look off (no matter how long my hair is) because its too thin. My bun always looks sad and deflated haha

What a great look for short hair! It's a very creative way to still be able to wear a bun. [client]
