4 Ways to Give Back

Giving back to charities and to my community are both really important to me. If you’re able to, it’s always good to help those that are in need! Whether it’s a group that supports hunger, health, or home there are so many organizations out there that need help and/or your donations. Today I wanted to share with you four ways that you can give back:

1. Pay attention to where you shop

This is something that I’ve started doing lately, and it’s really important to pay attention to where you shop and where your products are made. I like purchasing a lot of my clothing from local boutiques so that I support local businesses. I especially love supporting local businesses that give back to charities by donating a percentage of their sales. This is something that I wish more companies did, so I definitely support the ones that do! I’ve also been purchasing ethically made clothing like this poncho below. Whenever I’m shopping I just take a minute to pause and ask myself if the clothing or item will be benefiting a charity, or it is ethically made.

2. Adopt from a local rescue organization or a shelter

I’m a big supporter of animal rescue organizations. There are so many pets that need a home, so I think it’s important to rescue a pet for your family instead of buying one! I really can’t stress this enough. We adopted Lilly from a local group in Raleigh when she was 6 months old, and I’m so glad that we did! When you hear the stories and see the faces of pets that are in need of home, it’s hard not to be a big supporter of groups like this. I know that every pet that my husband and I get will always come from a local rescue organization.

3. Donate clothing

I just went through a major closet clean out! I started by going through all of my clothing, and then I moved onto my shoes. So far I’ve donated about 5 trash bags of clothes and 2 trash bags of shoes (including this dress below that sadly no longer fits me)! I took the clothes and shoes to a couple of different organizations that benefit charities in the area, and I definitely plan on donating more this year as I continue to lose weight. This is something that does take a little time, but it’s worth it in the end for both you and for the charity.

4. Band Together

Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company is set to donate $2 million to support health, home, and hunger charities through their campaign called Band Together. The organizations that this will benefit include St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Habitat for Humanity, and Feeding America or Food Banks Canada. In order to determine how much each organization is given, they need you to vote from July 11th through July 31st until 11 am CT. First place will be given $1,000,000, second place will be given $700,000, and third place will be given $300,000. Whenever you vote, you will also be entered to win weekly jewelry prizes. You can vote daily in order to increase your changes of winning one of the prizes!

I love this post! I went and voted. I love the shirt you have on in your first pic with the tassels, it's so cute! And, you know I'm always love when Lily makes an appearance. She's so dang cute!
