How To: Care for Your Bags and Shoes

When I invest in shoes or a bag, I want to make sure that I keep them in great condition! I invest in bags and shoes more than anything else in my wardrobe, and there’s nothing worse than finding a stain on a brand new clutch or pair of heels. With this, I take a few different steps to make sure that my shoes and bags are protected:

 1. Stuff your shoes with tissue paper: This is really helpful in order for your shoes to keep their shape. Sometimes the shape can become a little off if they aren’t stored properly. I find this especially useful for pumps and ankle boots!

2. Store your shoes in shoe boxes: This keeps my shoes protected from dust, and gives them plenty of room to be stored. I have a few too many pairs of shoes in my collection, and I find myself cramming them to fit into my closet sometimes which can distort their shape. It’s best to store them in shoe boxes if you’re able to in order to keep them protected. With this, I also store my designer bags in the dust bags to keep them in great condition.

3. Use Scotchgard™ Fabric & Upholstery Protector: I use this on my fabric bags and shoes (cotton, polyester, silk, wool, acrylic, nylon, and most other washable fabrics). Scotchgard™ Fabric & Upholstery Protector repeals liquid and blocks stains by pushing them away from fabric fibers (there’s nothing worse than your jeans rubbing against your bag and leaving a stain!). It also doesn’t change the look of fabrics and it’s safe to use on delicate and dry clean fabrics too.

When using this product I first protect the area from over spray, I shake the can well, then test it on a hidden area (once you spray rub it with a cloth and if color comes up do not use it). Once I’m ready to use the product I spray 6″ from the fabric surface using a slow sweeping motion, let the item dry between coats, and then reapply. One tip that I have is to make sure to reapply annually too. You can also find a coupon here.

This sounds great, but I noticed you didn't mention leather as a material it's safe to use on, which the majority of my shoes and bags are, so to keep my bag safe from my jeans, I should use this to spray my jeans?

This is a fabric protector so unfortunately it doesn't work on leather. You could spray it on your jeans, but make sure you do the color test first.
