This time of year can be challenging when it comes to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Between all of the different holiday parties, and then the actual holidays themselves it’s really easy to get off track. However, it doesn’t have to be! My husband and I plan on sticking to the 21 day fix eating plan during the holiday season so that we don’t lose sight of our goals. Here are my tips:
1. Limit your carb intake: My Mom is Italian, and she makes the best lasagna every year for Christmas Eve. Am I still going to have a piece? Absolutely. However, it’s going to be a much smaller piece and I’m going to limit my carb intake for the rest of the day. Throughout the day of the holiday party or holiday dinner, load up on fruits, veggies, and proteins and save your carbs for the special occasion. This way, you won’t end up in carb overload and feeling awful at the end of the night.
2. Drink water: It’s always important to stay hydrated, and I aim to drink between 80-100 oz of water each day. It’s even more important to drink water when you know that the food you will be eating is out of your norm, or if you’re going to be consuming alcohol. It will help flush the toxins out of your body, so make sure you drink up!
3. Don’t skip your workout: Just because it’s the holiday season or because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean you should skip your workout. I go to Flywheel classes about 4x a week, and I definitely won’t be skipping a class anytime soon. I love these classes because they burn a lot of calories, but it’s also important to make sure that you are also incorporating some weight lifting. I think a lot of women are scared of lifting weights because they don’t want to become too muscular. That’s where Flybarre fits in! Flybarre uses light weights (2, 3, and 5 lbs) and core exercises to strengthen and tone your body. In addition to the weights this class also uses a couple of different kinds of resistance bands, an exercise ball, and a ballet barre. Don’t be fooled by the light weights though because this class is definitely challenging at first. Every time I leave class I feel so sore, but hey at least I know it’s working! You won’t look like a body builder after this class, but it will definitely leave your body toned which is exactly what you want. I really want to start incorporating regular Flybarre classes into my routine.

4. Avoid sweets: I know this can be challenging for a lot of people during the holidays, but sweets are just empty calories. If there is a dessert that you absolutely love and look forward to each year, then you might not want to deprive yourself of that. Instead, try having a smaller portion and avoiding the other desserts. Another idea is to bring a healthier dessert along with you like Halo Top so that it satisfies your sweet tooth.
