We've been in our house for 4 years now, but we are still making changes to it in terms of decorating. I feel like our style is always evolving, so I love making small adjustments every now and then! One space that has changed a lot is our living room, which has become one of my favorite rooms in our home, and it's where we usually spend most of our time. It's where Robert, Lilly, and I curl up to watch one of our favorite shows, and listen to some music on our record player each night. Here are some tips that I have in terms of how to style your living room:One. Choose furniture that is multi-functional. Our ottoman in our living room serves a few different purposes in addition to being an ottoman to rest our feet on. It has a shelf on the bottom that gives us extra storage, and because it's leather it can also be used for extra seating if needed.
Two. Add pops of color to the room with your furniture. Both the walls and our couch are the perfect neutral colors, so we had to come up with a way to add some color to the room. We decided to go with two blue chairs that are the same fabric as the couch. I absolutely love these chairs (and so does our pup Lilly).
Three. Use candles to add warmth and relaxation. The first thing I like to do when I get home from work (other than change into pajamas), is light a candle. My favorite candles right now are from The NEW Atmosphere Collection™ Fine Home Fragrance by Glade® that I pick up at Kroger. My current favorite scents are both N°2 Bright™ and N°3 Free™. N°2 Bright™ is sweet pea and pear which smells both sweet and fresh, and N°3 Free™ is coconut and beach woods that has a very relaxing scent. Both of these scents remind me a lot of our wedding and our honeymoon, and I love having these candles lit while looking at the pictures from that time. Now that we have been married for almost 7 years, I love anything that has us reminiscing! It reminds me of where we started, and how far we have come. This new line of products is by fragrance designer Ann Gottlieb, that is full of curated and artisanal scents. These candles definitely smell like a high end product, but they are for the fraction of the price. I definitely recommend adding one to a room in your home.
Four. Add personal touches with pictures. Above our buffet table in our living room we have pictures from our wedding and from our honeymoon. I love adding pictures throughout our home, and these are some of my favorites.
Five. Accessorize with fun pieces. We have a couple of gold urchins, a gold tray, chevron jars, and silver candleholders that I absolutely love. They all add such a great touch, but we don't have too many accessories where it feels cluttered which I think is key.
