I’ve seen all of the elaborate first birthday parties on Pinterest and Instagram, but to be honest we just didn’t have the time for something like that. The same week that Charlotte turned one was also my sister’s wedding and Charlotte’s baptism. Life was hectic in December to say the least. My husband and I agreed to throw a simple first birthday party with just family, and it was just perfect! Here’s how we kept her party simple and stress free:
You don’t have to go overboard and be crafty when it comes to decorations for a first birthday party. That’s what Amazon and Target are for after all! Amazon prime is the only way I survive these days, and Amazon came to the rescue for affordable decorations and paper products for Charlotte’s party. I also found a couple of things at Target too a while back in the dollar section. It was much easier to buy the decorations vs. make them myself as a full-time working Mom.
We had some appetizers that I picked up at Trader Joe’s, but for lunch we ordered pizza from Mellow Mushroom to keep things as simple as possible! I didn’t end up having to cook all day which was amazing, and it honestly worked out better with all of the diet restrictions among our family.
I ordered Charlotte’s smash cake from Publix that was less than $10, and I made a gluten free cake from a cake mix that I picked up at Target. Only having to make one cake made things so easy!
We only invited family so that we could keep the party small. It was a lot less stressful this way, and I think we’ll continue to do this until Charlotte’s in school.
It was such a fun and special day celebrating our sweet girl! Do you have any tips on how to keep a party simple?
