I last talked about North Hills here, and today I wanted to share about how family friendly this area is too! North Hills is constantly growing and it’s one of my favorite spots in Raleigh, and it’s also one of my favorite places to bring Charlotte. Here are the best spots that are family friendly when it comes to where to eat, where to shop, and what to do:
Where to Eat
The Cowfish: The Cowfish is one of my favorite restaurants in North Hills! Robert and I used to come here all the time when we lived down the street, but now it’s also a great place for us to go with Charlotte. The first thing that I love about The Cowfish (other than their food of course) is their fun decor which includes a giant fish tank with the most gorgeous fish. The fish tank was the first thing that Charlotte noticed when we sat down, and she was 100% obsessed and wouldn’t stop pointing at it all throughout lunch. The other thing I love about The Cowfish is how amazing the staff is there. They were so attentive, helpful, and they were amazing with Charlotte. When she started getting a little fussy, they brought over a book for her all about the legend of the Cowfish which she absolutely loved.
A couple of weeks ago when we visited The Cowfish for lunch with Glory, and we learned some new things about the menu which is always fun. We started our lunch out with a round of cocktails, after all it was the weekend! Glory ordered the ‘Skinny Gonzales’, Robert had the ‘Craig…Are You Going to Get Fire on Your Day Off?’ and I had a Red Oak. We then decided on the crab rangoon dip with wonton chips and also the shishito peppers as our appetizers and we were blown away. The crab rangoon dip is unbelievable, full of so much flavor, and you must order it next time you’re at The Cowfish!
For our entrees I had the Fusion Specialty Bento Box and our waitress let me know that I was able to substitute the burger with a veggie burger, and any fusion specialty roll that I wanted which was amazing. I loved getting to taste a little bit of everything, and it’s definitely the perfect dish if it’s your first time at The Cowfish. Glory ordered sushi and she was able to split her roll so that she got half of the Firecracker and half of the Fiery Dragon which she loved. Robert ordered the Deliverance Roll from the ‘Burgushi’ section and we were all in awe when it came out of the kitchen. It was filled with BBQ and topped with potato strings, and he couldn’t get over how amazing and big it was. I think my favorite thing though was the adorable bento box that Charlotte got from their kids menu. She had the PB&J that was rolled up to look like sushi, and the detail that the put into their kids meal was seriously amazing. They even had a little rice krispie treat to look like a piece of sushi.
While Charlotte and I were looking at the fish, Glory and Robert decided on some dessert to finish out our lunch. We shared the Fresh Berry Tall Cake and the Gimmie More S’more Shake. The milkshake was definitely my favorite, and we were able to split it into three different glasses which was perfect. Needless to say, all the food at The Cowfish was so good and we can’t wait to visit again soon!
Bartaco: We love Bartaco and the variety of tacos on their menu, and even off of the menu (just ask for the secret taco)! We’ve taken Charlotte here a few times before, and they have a great kids menu to choose from which is always an added bonus for us. It’s also a very relaxed environment which is definitely necessary with kids.
B. Good: B. Good is one of my favorite spots for a healthy meal! I love their spicy avocado and lime quinoa bowl, but they also have options like burgers and grilled cheese for kids. This restaurant is also the quicker side which is a bonus if your kids can’t sit still for too long.
Another Broken Egg Cafe: I meet one of my friends here for breakfast every now and then with our little ones, and their kids menu has a great variety of options and comes with a lot of food so you get your bang for your buck.
Viva Chicken: Viva Chicken is another restaurant that is on the quicker side, and they have options for vegetarians too which I absolutely love (try their stuffed avocado). Their chicken is the only chicken I’ve ever been able to get Charlotte to eat, and she absolutely loves their food.
Where to Shop
Quail Ridge Books: This bookstore is the place to go if you have kids! As soon as we stepped in the store Charlotte was in love, and she actually cried when it was time to leave. This girl is 100% obsessed with books! They have the most adorable children’s section that is decorated so perfectly. There are paintings on the wall with characters such as Winnie the Pooh and Harry Potter, and there are also signs to Whoville and Hogwarts which I loved. Their book selection is also unbelievable, and Charlotte spotted some of her favorites including The Hungry Caterpillar! Quail Ridge Books also has a calendar of events that includes story time, so we are definitely going to be bringing Charlotte back for that.
Lamb’s Ear: I first stepped into Lamb’s Ear last summer with my sister and cousin, and found some adorable items for Charlotte! It is where I first discovered the Bella Tunno bibs that we love, and now we own so many of them (you can never have too many bibs). They also have a variety of clothes, shoes, and toys to choose from too.
Charlotte’s Jewelry & Gifts: I love browsing Charlotte’s for accessories for myself (their jewelry selection is amazing), so it’s definitely a bonus that I can look at items for babies too! Their selection for babies includes clothing, books, and gifts.
Learning Express: Learning Express is the perfect store to go to if you’re shopping for toys! They have toys for all ages and interests, and they even have in store pick-up if you order online which is perfect if you’re a busy Mom.
What to Do
Flour Power Kids Cooking Studio: I absolutely love the idea of Flour Power, and I can definitely see us taking Charlotte there when she’s older to learn more about cooking. They offer weekly classes, birthday parties, camps, and even classes for adults!
Midtown Park: Midtown Park hosts concerts and community events, and it’s the perfect place to go with the family. Once the weather warms up, make sure you check out the events calendar!
Beach Music: Oh how I love Beach Music! Robert and I used to go all the time when we lived down the street from North Hills, but it’s also a great event to bring your children to (especially earlier in the evening). Beach Music begins in April and ends in August and is held on Thursdays.
What are your favorite spots in North Hills?
